Enterprise Library 5.0 - Where's the reference documentation?

Hello, I just recently downloaded the Enterprise Library, but I don't see any kind of reference documentation. I have the compliled help file (EntLib50.chm) as well as a PDF developer's guide, and they both say the library comes with reference documentation, but I just don't see any anywhere. The best I could find on MSDN was reference documentation for version 4.1. Does anyone have any idea how/where I can get the reference documentation from? Or, can I reliably use the 4.1 documentation I found? Thanks! - Bill Hyatt

Sorry I'm not sure specifically what reference documentation are you looking for since you mentioned that you already have the CHM file (or the Enterprise Library 5.0 VS 2008 Documentation.msi) . Can you point me exactly where you have found the reference documentation for 4.1 so I would know what reference documentation are you pertaining to? Thanks.

If you're talking about the API reference documentation, yes, there's been a problem with that. It's very frustrating on our end too.

Basically, the MSDN database is seriously screwed up, and they've been trying to unhose it for going on six months now. Unfortunately, until they do we can't publish the API refs. As for the CHM file, that was just an unfortunate oversight. I'm working with the people here to get it rebuilt with the API refs included.

Thanks for your reply.  Some questions, then:

  • Without reference documentation for 5.0, could I possibly use the 4.1 reference documentation I found on MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee779181.aspx)?
  • Are there any other sources of documentation for 5.0 at present?
  • Do you have any timeframe as to when the CHM file might be updated and published?

The Entlib 5.0 reference documentation went live on MSDN earlier today. The CHM is still in the queue, but at least the information is out there now.

The 4.1 reference for the public API will get you over the hump; most of the changes we made in 5 are backwards compatible.

Great news about the reference documentation for 5.0 going live on MSDN (I must say I'm very impressed with the library itself).  Can you post a link to it (couldn't find it with a search on MSDN)?

Thanks again!

The root node for the Entlib doc set is at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff632023.aspx.

The API reference is here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff672062(PandP.50).aspx.

There's probably some weird caching or propagation delay or something - the first time I hit the root the API ref didn't show up in the table of contents, but after a hard refresh it did.
