Hi,

is the only way to get a new connection string into the *.config UI Tool by typing it char by char?

Is this the sense of a WPF UI?

Hi,

We'll ask Microsoft regarding this and will get back to you when we get the details.

There is no standard WPF connection string builder dialog. We didn't have time to write one, dealing with all the vagaries of every possible database, and get the rest of the tool done and stable.

And, for what it's worth, the standalone entlib config tool never had a connection string builder either. It was only inside Visual Studio that that capability existed.

It's not ideal, no, but it's the best we could do with the resources and time at our disposal. It would be an ideal contribution if you'd like to try and write one! We'll most likely add this to our backlog for future versions.

Hi,

a simple already existing solution could be referencing / using MSDASC.DataLinks.

The Visual Studio Connection String Builder is now freely available here:

Sadly, we can't use it in the main release - it's got a different license, and you have no idea how much pain dealing with such trivialities can cause.

However, there's nothing stopping community folks from doing it!
