.AddParameter function of database object

In my app, I call a SQL Server SP, that has an OUTPUT param, which is also used as INPUT.
So, as a newcomer to EntLib (v3.1), I realized I should call the .AddParameter function, instead of .AddOutParameter.
The question is, why should I use the full parameter list, when my parameter is a string ? I think there should be
an overloaded function with fewer options. After the parameter direction, there is precision, scale, and others
that I don't want, except the Value parameter. I'd like a comment on this from the EntLib team heroes.
