how to create log in event logger and float file at a time

Hi,

    I have one scenario, which is when i run my applicaiton i want to maintain log in both flat file and event logger, for example here i attached my sample code, in this code following message is storing in event logger , one is "Logging in event viewer", another one is "Logging in flat file". My intention is i want to store "Logging in event viewer" in event logger then "Logging in flat file" in flat file, how i can achieve it. here i attached my sample code. let me know you have any issue

Hi,

You can achieve this by creating two categories, one is pointing to event log and the other one to flat file. Here is a sample config:

     I tried your code, but i  am getting following error: "The configuration for TraceListener named FlatFile TraceListener is missing from configuration." Please help me to solve this problem

I’ve tried to reproduce the error encountered but unfortunately was not successful. Can you double check in your configuration if the “FlatFile TraceListener” really doesn’t exist anymore.

Also, just curios with the entlib version you’re using, from your initial post you’re using 4.0 and now 4.1. Can you confirm what version are you really using? This is just to make sure that we’re not dealing of something different from the problem being reported. Thanks.

Hi Avanade,

     I solved the  following error message "The configuration for TraceListener named FlatFile TraceListener is missing from configuration", it was happened because of name given to the different listener,

now my application is executing, but all the message is maintaing in both flat file as well as Event log so category is not working , how i can control it. this is my config file

I just noticed that you added the LogToFlatFile category to log instead of log1

            LogEntry log1 = new LogEntry();
            log1.EventId = 20;
            log1.Message = "Logging in Flat file";
            log.Categories.Add("LogToFlatFile");  -----------> should be log1.Categories.Add("LogToFlatFile"); 
            log1.Severity = TraceEventType.Information;

Also kindly remove the listeners defined inside the All Events categories
