Will there be a way to configure the category id when logging an event to the event viewer through the logging application block, without customizing the code?

Could you clarify what do you mean by "category id"?  I can relate it to 2 things:

1. Logging category defined in your config

2. The Task Category column in the event viewer.

If it's the latter and you want to populate that column when logging using Logging Application Block, then the answer is no, there's no way without creating a custom event log trace listener as the out-of-the-box event log trace listener doesn't support it.

Thank you for the quick response; it was referring to the later, populating the event view category column.

As I've mentioned, you would need to create a custom trace listener and implement the behavior you want with that.
